About Bay & Bow Windows
Everything you want to know about Acclaim® Bay and Bow Windowss.
What is an Acclaim® replacement projection window?
Bay and bow windows are projection windows — instead of being flush to the wall, they project outward, granting a wider, more unobstructed view. Other types include box bays and bump-out bays.
What are the advantages to bay or bow replacement windows?
Enhanced natural light and ventilation; expanded views (up to double the field of vision); and additional functional space (built-in desk, shelves, storage, plant display) without changing your home’s footprint.
What is the difference between a bay window and a bow window?
A bay window has three openings in angled projections, typically a larger center panel flanked by two smaller windows. A bow window has three to six equal-sized openings sweeping out in a graceful arc. Bow windows typically have more glass and can wrap around corners.
How is a bay window configured?
Renewal by Andersen offers bay windows in three-, four-, and five-window combinations. Box bay and bump-out bay options are also available. Bump-out is a one-lite window with no flanking windows.
How much room do I need for a bay or bow window?
Picture window sizing within the bay can range from 10.5–108" wide and 10.5–108" tall, subject to United Inch Limitation (min 22", max 170" combined). Contact a design consultant for specifics.
What materials go into an Acclaim® bay window?
All Acclaim® replacement windows use proprietary Fibrex® composite material — twice the strength of vinyl, does not need painting, and won’t chip, rot, crack, peel, or corrode. Projection windows also use high-performance weatherization flashing, tape, and sealants, plus aviation-grade cabling rated at 1,200 lbs per support.
Is a bay window energy efficient?
Yes. Our projection windows feature high-performance weatherization, vented soffit panels, and the option for High-Performance™ Low-E4® SmartSun™ glass. Fibrex® composite frames provide excellent insulation.
Are bay windows expensive?
Bay and bow windows are more complex than flush windows and are typically priced higher due to more hardware, accessories, and multiple window units. Bow windows tend to be more expensive than bay windows due to larger size, more glass, and additional engineering.
